Report from 2001/02 Committee

The Committee was delighted to report a very positive year for the club. Following the merger and transition period of the past two seasons, this season saw consolidation and foundations being laid for the future. The season had seen the appointment of a club coach and a number of new players in both the mens and ladies teams, with playing standards and results throughout the club much improved. There was also a series of excellent social events including a club day, disco, two sit down dinners and an inaugural Golf Society day.

In terms of specific issues which the Committee had spent its time on, these included:

1. Attempts to gain club sponsorship (the Committee would welcome feedback from members on how this might be progressed more successfully in the coming season)

2. The future of the club's home at North Cheam Sport and Social Club following granting of planning permission to convert the Astroturf pitch to 5-a-side facilities. The club has subsequently received assurances that hockey facilities were safe for 5 years and had written assurance until at least 2003.

3. The lack of a men's 3rd X1 captain. The Committee thanked Mick Lewis & others who had managed the side in the absence of a captain.

Looking forward, the Committee had welcomed work that had been done on a Sports Development Plan for the Club by Steve Day and Kieran Humphrey. It was hoped that some more people within the club would now come forward to help take the plan forward as part of a sub-committee. As part of this process, the Committee had sought to clarify the roles of officers in order to reinvigorate the Committee. The proposal to make the role of president more of a figurehead and to enhance the role of Club Captain was subject to approval by the AGM.

In conclusion, the Committee would like to thank all those involved in the running of the club, especially Mick Lewis who was standing down as club captain having steered the club through its transitional phase.
